Once again, Long Island will be joining more than 2,000 cities in 40 countries around the world in budget-carcelebrating Car Free Day on September 22, when people are encouraged to get around without cars and instead ride a train, bus, walk, bicycle, carpool, or just drive less. Last year, almost 3,000 Long Islanders pledged to be car-free or car-lite, resulting in the avoidance of more than 78,000 miles of driving and 39 tons of CO2 emissions

Car Free Day Long Island now has more than 1,000 pledges! Pledge to not drive at all, carpool, or at least drive less that day. With almost 3 million Long Islanders, if everyone drove 1 mile less, that’s 3 million miles!

Once again, those that pledge will also be eligible to win great prizes. New prizes are coming in every week, including tickets donated by several of Long Island’s theaters:

• Theatre Three, in Port Jefferson.
• Bay Street Theatre, in Sag Harbor.
• Noel S. Ruiz Theatre, at the CM Performing Arts

Center in Oakdale.

The latest raffle prizes are:
• a Wine Country Bicycle Tour, courtesy of LI Bicycle Tours. • Two tickets to a N.Y. Cosmos soccer match.
