To align with the mission she set for herself when purchasing Natural Awakenings Long Island 
(NALI), Publisher Kelly Martinsen is creating more opportunities for her loyal readers—the folks she affectionately refers to as NALIs. “NALIs,” explains Martinsen, “are the ‘natural awakened Long Islanders’ that read this magazine cover to cover each month expecting to find amazing life tips for body, mind and soul delivered in a non-judgmental way.”
This summer, Martinsen says she found she was running into more and more NALI readers. “They were on fire!” she exclaims. “I would be at the beach or at my child’s lacrosse game and someone would come up to me and thank me for the magazine.” While some approached her to talk about her publisher letters, others discussed meditation, clean eating or mindfulness.
“The NALIs need a community, and I want this magazine to be THEIR community!” enthuses Martinsen. So, with that in mind, she is implementing more community engagements. First, NALI is seeking drawings, paintings and photos in line with living a healthy life for possible publication in the magazine and even for use as a cover.
“We have amazing artists and photographers right here on Long Island,” says Martinsen. “I want Natural Awakenings Long Island to be the place that highlights their work. “We also have writers and volunteers and experts on a multitude of areas right here on Long Island, and while I can’t publish everything I am sent, I want to see more of it and I want to foster this community.”
All photos must be clear and cover pictures must be large file and 300 DPI. The best way to share your photos with us is to tag us on Natural Awakenings Long Island on Facebook or Instagram. By doing this, your photo may be used in the magazine. If your photo is chosen as the coveted cover shot, NALI will request the large file and you will receive a $100 gift certificate with one of our amazing advertisers.
