“My passion is chronically inflamed skin, specifically
rosacea, eczema and psoriasis,” says Mary Allmaras,
RN, founder of Hampton Skin Care. “Inspiration for red, reactive,
sensitive skin came in the form of three personal losses
due to malignant melanoma.” Sustained by her belief that
there had to be alternative options to toxin-packed personal
care products and long-term, disturbing side effects associated
with prescription medications, she developed and managed an
eight-month skin study using volunteers in 2008 in a Mattituck
chiropractor’s office using plants with a long, safe, historical
usage in Western medicine for chronic skin conditions.
When the study concluded, Allmaras knew that she
needed to create her skin product line. The result is three
organic, plant-based lotions—Rosacel for rosacea, Eczecel
for eczema and Psoriasel for psoriasis—
Psoriasel Scalp Spray for stubborn
scalp psoriasis and Psoriasel Nail
Oil for psoriatic nails.
According to Allmaras, all of the
products are made with indigo naturalis,
a plant now recognized in the
medical community for its significant
anti-inflammatory effect on the redness,
itching and pain of psoriasis and
ability to reduce the hyper proliferation
of cells associated with psoriasis (Journal of American
Medicine, March 2012). Indigo naturalis is equally effective
on rosacea and eczema, she says.
“My mission is to educate the public about harmful skin
irritants in OTC [over-the counter] products, the risks associated
with prescription medications and the availability of
alternative options for the care of these chronic inflammatory
skin conditions,” says Allmaras.
