Why Detoxing Is Critical

I am both alarmed and outraged with the release of a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that has found that pediatric cancer rates in the U.S. are highest in the Northeast, with New York having the second highest number of cases in the country.

The recently released study states that there were 11,378 cases of pediatric cancer in the state between 2003 and 2014. Only California has more, with 21,725. When accounting for the state’s population numbers, it works out as 190 cases for every 1 million people under 20.

According to the CDC: “Geographic variation in pediatric cancer incidence might be influenced by several factors. First, variation in childhood cancer incidence might be related to differences in exposures to carcinogenic chemicals (e.g., air pollution, secondhand smoke, food or drinking water) or radiation. Second, genetic variation in certain populations (e.g., prevalence of cancer predisposition genes) might contribute to geographic differences in cancer incidence. Third, the rates of certain cancer types might vary by race or ethnicity. For example, Hispanic children have the highest rate of the most common type of leukemia, pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and states with a higher proportion of Hispanics might have higher rates of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Fourth, incidence of some types of cancer (e.g., thyroid carcinoma) might be related to enhanced detection and access to care, which can vary by geographic location.”

As a parent and an aunt, this is clearly upsetting, but as a doctor it is infuriating. I have been passionately speaking about the need to detox for 12 years. After taking care of so many 911 detox rescue workers and seeing the positive impact on not only their symptoms and their quality of life, but the reduced rate of cancer in the participants that detoxified, I wanted to scream from the mountaintops that we all need to detox! We were all exposed to more toxins because of 911. As a doctor and researcher, I searched for solutions. I now know we can help reduce our body’s burden of chemicals with sauna, alkaline diet and detoxification!

In March 2005, The New York Times reported that Dr. Peter Ludwig, director of the obesity program at Children’s Hospital Boston stated: “We’re in the quiet before the storm. It’s like what happens if suddenly a massive number of young children started chain smoking. At first you wouldn’t see much public health impact, but years later it would translate into emphysema, heart disease and cancer.” Here we are now, 13 years later!

Do you know that the body stores toxins in fat cells? So, yes, it is the fast food, carbohydrates and outrageous amounts of sugar that is leading to obesity and higher cancer rates. Yes, but so are the toxins. This is a national crisis now, and parents, grandparents and physicians should be up in arms about how this happened and what we can do to stop this trend.

When patients detoxify, they lower the burden of chemicals in their body. We can all take steps to lower our exposure at least in our food, skin care products, home cleaning supplies, and makeup. Every parent must have this information. Parents do not choose to knowingly poison their babies; they just do not know any better. There are definitive things we can do to help our families stay well, and we simply must.
