Stephen Kushner is a hairdresser and colorist trained as a young man at the legendary vidal Sassoon Salon, in Manhattan. Kushner has owned five hair salons throughout his career and trained hundreds of hairdressers in the Sassoon method. He has also led in- salon education for the Wella Color Corporation across the U.S. His clients include Jane Fonda, Julie Christie, and even the Twilight star Robert Pattinson.
But Kushner doesn’t want clients to just look great, he wants them to feel great, too. In 2005, his wife, Sonam, was diagnosed with cancer. When she worried about her hair loss after chemo, Kushner sought out wigs that would do more than just cover her head. She loved her wig so much that she suggested her husband offer the same service to other people.
This is how Wigs at Home was born. Founded in 2005, its mission is “to bring comfort, understanding and self-confidence to people experiencing hair loss during a traumatic time in their lives.” Kushner does this by providing consultations and fittings in the privacy of the client’s own home.
Whether for a wig or a hairstyle, Kushner’s experience with color allows him to take a client’s hair texture, skin tone and eye color into consideration for a fabulous result.
