Making his announcement in Long Beach on Thursday, November 10, Gov. Andrew Cuomo was met with large cheers when he said, “I am saying no to Port Ambrose.” Port Ambrose is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) port that has been proposed for the New York Harbor.

Cuomo indicated he agreed with the pipeline’s opponents, led primarily by The Sane Energy Project, agree- ing in entirety that this project would damage our marine ecosystem, place New Yorkers at risk for terrorist attacks, and promote the industrialization of our coastline. The site the developers were considering for Port Ambrose is currently being proposed as a site for a wind farm.

“Port Ambrose would block a green, clean, renewable source of energy,” says Long Beach resident Kathleen Bauer, who was thrilled with Cuomo’s decision. “At this stage of the game, shouldn’t we be looking at alternative energy options?”
