An Interview with Hope Floats Owner Kimberly Boone

How did you start your business?

Hope Floats began in my own home in 2013. After trying floating myself and experiencing the benefits I was receiving, I wanted to help others that were also struggling with the same issues. I am in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction and still suffering with anxiety and depression. I could not safely take drugs and was looking for an alternative therapy. Sensory deprivation had been researched, and findings showed the therapy helps those with addiction. I found being in a sound-proof pod filled with warm water and Epsom salt offered relief from issues myself and others were having. Floating started to become more popular on the East Coast around this time, and I found the need to move to a retail location within six months. I was a single mother of four children living at home with me along with two dogs, and strangers coming in and out of the house at all hours was getting complicated! I now have two locations—one in Bethesda, Maryland, and the other here on Long Island, in Williston Park.

What services do you offer?

We currently have two tanks, each in a private room with a private shower. At Hope Floats, our guests have a luxurious experience. We offer all amenities, such as towels, robes, slippers, shampoo, cream rinse, and body lotion, as well as a blow dry bar. We also have an infrared sauna large enough to accommodate up to four people.

What would you say are the benefits of floating?

Floating offers relief from stress, anxiety, addiction, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, and hypertension. Float therapy enhances relaxation, healing, meditation, athletic training, sleep and concentration. The infrared sauna provides a gentle, soothing and therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation, detoxification, lower blood pressure, weight loss, pain relief, and improved circulation.

Who might benefit from your services?

Anyone suffering from everyday stress to those suffering from more serious issues, such as chronic pain, to those who want to improve their athletic training and concentration.

What do you hear from your clients?

We hear many positive things from our guests, but the one we hear most is, “I feel so much better; I can’t wait to come back!” They also like the spa-like environment Hope Floats offers.

Who should come to Hope Floats?

Anyone who wants to improve their mental and physical well-being in a natural, holistic way will benefit from floatation therapy and/or infrared sauna sessions.

The Long Island Hope Floats location is 52 Hillside Ave., in Williston Park. For more information, call 516-307-1560.
