Volunteering Opportunity for the Holidays

For the past 20 years, Bhavani Jaroff and iEat Green have fed the homeless during the holiday season. Partnering with The River Fund-New York, a local food pantry feeding over 150,000 people annually, Jaroff organizes members of the local community to provide food at Rufus King Park, in Jamaica Queens.

Last year Jaroff cooked 45 turkeys alone and received an additional 20 cooked turkeys from women of the community. 280 pounds of sweet potatoes and 300 pounds of white potatoes were also donated. All food is prepared from scratch with the help of volunteers. For the past three years Jaroff has received help from the Men and Women’s Real Estate Association who, in addition to making a generous donation, line up to carve all of the turkeys.

To pull this type of project off, Jaroff is calling upon businesses in the local community as well as individuals to make donations of food and money so she can acquire all of the ingredients necessary to put forth a full Thanksgiving feast and Christmas dinner. An annual part of these events is also her collection of warm clothing to be passed on to the needy.

Individuals or businesses interested in donating clothes, food, time or money should contact iEat Green at 516-238-3616, email [email protected] or visit iEatGreen.com. A video of last year’s events is available at YouTu.be/azum2jsokeI.
