The Good Gut

What do allergies, depression, frequent colds, sinus infections, and psoriasis all have in common? The gut! Oftentimes, these types of illnesses stem from a distressed gut. Approximately 60 to 80 percent of our immune system lives in our gut. Within this meshwork of what medicine calls the GALT, or gut associated lymphatic tissue, is an entire world of organisms that should exist in balance. But what happens when these 100 trillion bacteria get out of balance? An imbalance of gut microorganisms, known as dysbiosis, results in overgrowth of fungus, bacteria and other pathogens, resulting in sickness.

These “bad” microorganisms proliferate and produce toxins that can weaken the immune response. They also interfere with the proper absorption of nutrients into your bloodstream. The intricate balance of the digestive tract can be altered by various toxins, including antibiotics and drugs, in general; chemicals, like chlorine and fluoride found in our water supply; food additives, preservatives and artificial coloring; stimulants, like coffee; and an excessive amount of difficult-to-digest foods, like grains.

The good news is there’s a solution to successfully healing your gut. Remove damaging foods and replace them with healing foods that promote gut health. Repair using proper supplementation/enzyme therapy. Lastly, rebalance with probiotics. If you’re looking to be healthy, be sure to focus on gut health.
